Kutsukake Stay 中軽井沢

Japanese Re-inn –くつかけステイ中軽井沢–

Located about a ten-minute walk away from Naka-Karuizawa Station, a 40-year-old vacant house sits between rice fields and a residential area.Naka-Karuizawa, once a lodging town by the name of Kutsukake-Stay, seemed like the perfect place to transform an empty space into a Japanese-style lodging that could be a destination for visitors wishing to immerse themselves in an area rich in both nature and culture.

Although this work would begin with surveying, an optimal combination of kitchen and guestrooms was considered after the complex wood structure of existing buildings underwent B.I.M. (Building Information Modeling).

Together with the owner of the lodge, we used B.I.M. to get a 3D recreation of the space long before the start of business operations.

We adopted many Kumiko-like Japanese style finishing touches on the interior design and furniture. However, in reality, these program-generated geometrical patterns were created using lasers and play an integral role in the completion of the space.
